New tank containers

Used tank containers are widely applied for multimodal transportation of liquid food products, chemicals, liquefied gases, and certain types of bulk cargoes. Structurally, they represent a tank mounted on the transport platform. As a rule, their dimensions meet the ISO requirements to containers. Given the huge range of transported cargoes, tank containers are manufactured on request in accordance with the requirements of the customer.

The main types of tank containers

The price of a new tank container essentially depends on its design features. The main types of tank containers differ with design of load bearing structure and method of mounting it in the tank:

• • Beam (Beamtank) is characterized by minimum weight and simplified frame construction. The upper longitudinal beams can be absent at all. The cost of container tanks of this type is minimal;
• • Frame (Frame) is distinguished by an enhanced frame design and extra ribs. It is able to withstand the maximum load. It is the most reliable tank of container type in the market today;
• • Removable (Swaptank) does not have a permanent rigid connection with supporting frame. It has increased volume (up to 35 cubic meters), but the size of the tank exceeds the standard dimensions of a 20-foot container. To buy a new tank container of this type is possible only for transportation by truck or railway, because the ships do not accept them for transportation.

Application of tank containers

Tenants and owners of tank containers need to control if the tank satisfies the characteristics of the transported cargo and meet safety requirements. After each transportation a tank shall be cleaned from residues of cargo in the shortest possible time. Especially this requirement is applied to food products.

All existing terminals for work with tank containers provide services for their cleaning and repairing of valves and, if necessary, and for periodic testing. Often new tank containers are applied for the storage of fuel or LPG which is considerably cheaper than the construction of special storage facilities. An additional benefit is the opportunity to move it in filled condition.
